COVID 19 Information

COVID-19 has caused disruption to accommodation and tourism across New Zealand and around the world.   However, Treghan is looking forward to sharing this beautiful part of the world with you, whether you are a New Zealander exploring the Bay of Islands or, when the borders open, travellers from overseas.

We want you to feel secure and comfortable during your stay.  To help you prepare for your stay at Treghan Lodge here is a breakdown of what you can expect from the check-in experience to check out.  In all areas, hand sanitiser is available for all staff, delivery drivers, and contractors at entry points to Treghan Lodge.  Each team member has hand sanitiser, protective face masks, disposable gloves, tissues and disinfectant sprays.

Our team has been trained in how to assist you if you become unwell during your stay.  Additional cleaning, sanitizing measures will be put in place if a guest becomes unwell during their stay.  If you start to feel unwell during your stay, please isolate yourself in your room and call us.

Until recently each Retreat and the main area of the lodge had its own designated NZ COVID Tracer QR Code while it was the New Zealand Government requirement that you scan in.

COVID-19 Protection Framework
Following New Zealand Government policy announcements, we would like to advise you that guests entering our hotel facilities* will no longer be required to produce their vaccine pass - from midnight Monday 4 April.

If you have any questions or concerns about this requirement, please do get in touch with us via email or phone us directly on 09 407 1311.

Global Safe Travel Stamp and COVID Ready Badge
The World Travel and Tourism Council, just over a year ago, launched the world’s first ever global safety and hygiene stamp to provide COVID safety recognition for travellers and the tourism trade. This has been adopted by over 400 countries globally including New Zealand.

This Safe Travels stamp allows travellers to recognise destination authorities and companies around the world that have implemented health and hygiene protocols that are aligned with WTTC's Global Safe Travels Protocols.

Treghan have been awarded the Safe Travels Stamp through the Tourism Export Council of New Zealand (TECNZ).  As well we have been recognised by TECNZ’s COVID Ready Programme and enabled to use the COVID Ready badge.

We do take the well being and safety of our guests and our team working here very seriously and are constantly seeking improvements and information to help everyone stay healthy and secure.

Treghan Surestay Programme

With private guesthouses, Treghan are able to ensure certainty for guests.  Each guest house is totally self contained, so we are able to provide easy physical distancing as well as best industry practice in hygiene and sanitising.

We have always maintained very high standards of cleanliness (check out our TripAdvisor reviews) but we have now introduced our Treghan Surestay Programme.
This means we

  • Conduct full sanitising of all touchable services, such as counter tops
  • Provide hand sanitiser in each guesthouse for the use of guests
  • Deep clean high touch surfaces such as door handles, taps, light switches
  • Use the Zoono Microbe Shield** surface sanitiser as a final mist spray on all surfaces following cleaning
  • Completely change all mattress protectors and pillow protectors as well as all other bed linen and bathroom linen after every guest
  • Minimise contact between our team and guests
  • Wear masks in any interaction with guests based on Government requirements, and we ask guests to do likewise
  • All our team wear gloves and masks during the cleaning process between guests
  • Offer additional towels and amenities in each guest house if you prefer as an alternative to servicing
  • Do not provide facilities for people who require self isolation.
The owners of Treghan and the team who work here are fully vaccinated.  As well, we do wear masks in any interaction with our guests.

As an additional protection for our guests, our team and the Lodge, and to be certain we are providing a safe environment for our guests, our staff, our business and our home, we are asking lodge guests who have recently arrived in New Zealand to provide evidence of a negative test within the last 36 hours.  From April 4 2022 Vaccine Passes are no longer required.   We’re conscious this could feel to some like an invasion of privacy but we have a duty of care to protect the team working here as well as our other guests and our business. Please read more here.
